I keep using the same interface and I have a very reactive one for backlog management
In content view "New Epic" and "New story in existing epic" spawn an overlay window
The new element is create at the end of the table (open or closed)

In planning view "New sprint" creates a new entry (show collapsed) at the top of the sprint list (submilestones)
