    question(cloud): Tuleap for small open source teams

    Summary

    We are small open source team, and we want free powerful help desk for our team. Please, read all requirements in my Software Recommendations question.

    2 days I try Tuleap features and I think, that is a greater help desk, than concurrents. But there are some questions.

    You can answer in Software Recommendations, that more users will use Tuleap.

    2.5. Number of users

    I don’t find information in Google and admin settings of my account, max users number.

    2.7. Backup

    I find these backup possibilities:

    Project administration

    Bugs export

    Export structure

    But I can’t find anywhere, how I can back up all issues content include comments. (This and this, possibly, for self-hosted users).

    3.1. Slack

    I can’t find, how I can use plugins, include Slack, in cloud Tuleap version.

    3.2. Python

    I find Python tool for getting issues from Tuleap trackers, but not for issues creating.

    Tags

    I don’t find in official site and another resources, how user can add tags (labels in GitHub Issues terminology, tags in YouTrack terminology) for issues. Also, I don’t find suitable field in Manage Field Usage.

    Tags — is the great feature for navigation. Personally, I use Zettelkasten method, that very helps me.

    2.5. Number of users

    For open source teams on tuleap.net we didn't set any limitations.

    2.7. Backup

    Those are oldies from the past. In term of backup you get the CSV export of anything in the trackers but it's limited due to the CSV format. Otherwise you can automate everything with APIs to export.

    3.1. Slack

    Current design of the slack/mattermost integration mandate that the bot should be declared by site administrator to be usable by projects. It's not pratical for tuleap.net admins to do that. So for that it's either self hosting or contributing ;)

    3.2. Python

    It's an external lib, you can contribute the support of creating issues.

    Tags

    You have different ways to do that in Tuleap with "List fields" with the great advantage that you can have a better selection of what you are doing. For instance instead of a bunch of tags "under discussion", "on going", "under review" that would sit in the middle of other tags, you can create a select box "Status" with all those states + a select box "Category" where you would have the different parts of your application.

    If you really want to stick with un-organised list of tags you can have "Open list" field that allows:

    • to predefine some values as tracker admin
    • let users add their own values on artifact edition.
